Which Tesla Model has the Longest Range?

If you are an owner of a Tesla Model S, 3, X, or Y, you know that you have one of the best cars on the road, but you may not know the differences in the range between the different Tesla models.

All-electric cars have a range, the number of miles the car can travel on a single charge. Having plenty of range is essential to preventing the dreaded "range anxiety" since an electric vehicle with inadequate range cannot complete even short trips.

As you know, each Tesla model is slightly different.

So, the question is: what are the ranges of each Tesla model?

The answer to that question is "it depends," and more than likely; you will not be able to utilize your vehicle's range fully.” However, if you plan on driving long distances in your electric vehicle, it is important for you to know the range of each model and the expected ranges of Tesla’s 2022 launches: the Cybertruck, Roadster, and Semi.

Differences in Tesla Range Between Models

The type of battery a Tesla vehicle uses will affect its range. The batteries that come with Models S and X are bigger than the ones found in other models.

The standard Model 3 has a 50 kWh battery, while other models have 60kWh or 70kWh batteries. In addition, high-speed driving takes up more energy since these cars require more torque at higher speeds to propel them forward faster.

So it is safe to say that the Model S and X have longer ranges than other Tesla vehicles because they can store more energy in their bigger batteries.

Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S, unveiled in 2012, is a full-sized four-door electric sedan. This car has the longest range compared to other Tesla models. Since its debut, the Tesla Model S has won many awards, including MotorTrend's car-of-the-year award. It is currently manufactured in Fremont, California, USA. The vehicle starts at around $90k.

The vehicle currently comes in two versions: the Long Range Plus and Plaid. All the latest versions of the Model S offer all-wheel drive (AWD). All models also offer Autopilot, with the option of a full self-driving upgrade for $10,000 to include navigation on Autopilot, Smart Summon, self-parking, and traffic light recognition. Automatic city street driving is also set to become fully available.

Long Range: The Long Range version has a range of approximately 405 miles. The car accelerates from 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds.

Plaid: The Plaid version has a range of approximately 396 miles. This version can go from 0 to 60 in slightly under two seconds.

Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 is the company's most affordable option, starting at around $40,000. For an extra $10k, drivers access the "full self-driving" features, including automatic lane changing and resuming speed after braking for traffic lights. The Model 3 is the most popular Tesla on the road today and comes in three versions.

Standard Range Plus: The Standard Range Plus version has a range of approximately 260 miles. The car accelerates from 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds.

Long Range: The Long Range version has a range of approximately 353 miles. This version accelerates from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds.

Performance: The Performance version's range is about 315 miles, and the car gets from 0-60mph in slightly over 3 seconds.

Tesla Model X

The Tesla Model X is an all-wheel-drive SUV capable of seating seven people. The front doors normally open while the back doors open upwards like gull wings, adding a futuristic touch to the car.

The starting price is around 100k. There are three different seating configurations, 5-passenger (standard), 6-passenger ($6,500), or 7-passenger ($3,500). The self-driving upgrade costs an additional 10k.

Long Range: The Long Range has a range of 360 miles and can go from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds.

Plaid: The Plaid version's range is 340 miles. This version can accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds.

Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y is a mid-sized all-wheel-drive SUV that seats five people. It is similar to the Model X in many ways, even though it doesn't include Falcon Wing doors. The starting price for the Y is about 55k, making it significantly more affordable than the X.

Long Range: The Long Range has a range of 315 miles and can accelerate 0-60mph in 4.8s.

Performance: The Performance's range is 303 miles and can go to 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds.

In Production

Both the Cybertruck and Roadster are currently in production. The Cybertruck is Tesla's pick-up truck, and the Roadster is a high-speed sports car.

Cybertruck

The Cybertruck is an all-electric truck unveiled in November 2019 and has an expected launch date in late 2022. There are three proposed models of the Cybertruck:

Single Motor RWD: This version is expected to have a range of over 250 miles, accelerating at 0-60 in under 6.5 seconds.

Dual Motor RWD: This version is expected to have a range of over 300 miles, accelerating at 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds.

Tri Motor AWD: This version is expected to have a range of over 500 miles, accelerating at 0-60 in under 2.9 seconds.

Tesla Roadster

This sports vehicle is projected at 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds. It can go from zero to 100 mph in 4.2 seconds—faster than any production car ever made! The range is 620 miles per charge—more than enough to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco without stopping once.

The Roadster is expected to be priced at $200,000 and available in 2022. For 50k more, a souped-up limited edition version called the Founder Series will be available.

Tesla Semi

A prototype for the Semi debuted in 2017, but the launch is not expected until 2022. The Tesla Semi is expected to have a 500-mile range and will start at 150k.

It can take a 40,000-pound trailer up a 5 percent grade at 65 mph. The semi-trailer truck will also come standard with Tesla Autopilot, allowing semi-automated driving on the highway.

Final Notes

Tesla's line of electric vehicles includes some of the most popular vehicles on the market today. These cars are environmentally friendly while maintaining a luxury feel, making them extremely popular with celebrities and tech-heads.

For those looking for an optimal Tesla range, the Tesla Model S is the way to go. If price is a concern, the Model 3 still provides a great range for a better price. The Model X has similar specs as the Model S, but it's heavier and will not travel as far on a single charge due to this extra weight.

And, of course, Tesla provides an extensive network of charging stations! There are over 25,000 Superchargers worldwide, and the majority of newer models are capable of using them. These stations allow you to drive the length of the United States easily if need be!

Fuel your savings. Spend 70% or less with every charge!
